The
Kennebunkport Historical Society and the
Heartwood College of Art have teamed up to provide an
exciting, day-long fundraising event for the whole family to
enjoy. Paint the Port involves artists from throughout New England, who come to paint a scene - they can use
watercolor, oil, pastels or even photography - which is then
auctioned off that same evening. Paint the Port offers a
unique opportunity to explore the area - both
Kennebunkport
and Cape Porpoise - through the eyes of an
artist. Many folks make a day of it and hop from
artist-to-artist to examine the works-in-progress on foot, by
bike, by car or even by boat, stopping for a bite to eat or a
picnic along the beautiful
Maine
coastline.
It begins
in the early morning with artists coming to the Nott House on 8
Maine Street in Kennebunkport to register their participation,
pick up their packed tote-bag lunch, gather their Paint the Port
"Artist at Work" signpost, and push the pin on the map of where
they'll be.
Anyone
looking to locate the artists can do so by coming to the Nott
House to see for themselves where the various artists are
located on the map. Kennebunkport Historical Society volunteers
are on-hand from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Nott House to sell
tickets and to answer any questions. The artists are usually
easy to spot around town because they have their signpost with
bright balloons floating to indicate that they are participating
in Paint the Port.
From 2:00 pm, tickets for the reception and auction will be
available for purchase at the Nonantum Resort.
By 3:00 pm,
the artists bring their artwork to the Nonantum Resort to dry.
The artwork is available to view starting at 4:00 pm. A catered
reception follows at 5 pm and the evening is then capped-off by
an auction of the works starting at 6:00 pm.
Tickets are
available prior to and on the day-of the event.
They include admittance
to the catered reception and allow the ticket holder to obtain a
bid number for the auction. Tickets are available for
purchase at the Kennebunkport Historical Society office at
125 North Street in Kennebunkport (207) 967-2751 and Heartwood
College of Art at
123 York Street in Kennebunk (207)
985-0985.
