Description of collections
The collections of the Society pertain to the history of Kennebunkport. There are over 5,000 photographs that document the history of the town, as well as genealogy information on many Kennebunkport families and histories of the early homes. The Society has a fine book collection including those by local authors Kenneth Roberts, Booth Tarkington and Margaret Deland as well as those written about Kennebunkport. Store journals, ship logs, shipbuilders’ records and diaries are among the many original documents within the Society’s archival collections. Maine artists represented in the collection include Thomas Badger, Hannah Skeele, Louis Norton, and Abbott Graves.
Beyond the physical structures and significant objects that comprise our collection you will find our most valuable asset: the narrative of our town, its origin, why we grew, and what has made Kennebunkport such an extraordinary place.
